Clare and the Reasons - All The Wine

Packing music

It is about 1 am here in Skagway, it is dark and cold, and I can here the wind howling outside my door, making my screen door slam every once in a wile. All I want is to be warm in bed with freshly washed hair (because mine smells like The Station, which if you are familiar with you know it sucks) but unfortunately I have laundry in the washer and I have a lot of packing and cleaning to do. I have however decided to take a short break because I am so excited about this new music that is making this whole situation a little easier to handle.  I love this new band called Clare and the Reasons.  They almost have a 1920's vibe to them which I really enjoy! Also check out the vidio it is really cute and clever.  Have a listen up above, I hope you enjoy them too!

French baking

I have an off and on dream of someday, when I'm settled and know more what I'm doing with my life to open a bakery. I want it to be sort of half like the cool hip bakery on "Stranger than Fiction," and half like the boutique style bakery, sophisticated and classy like on "It's complicated." Somewhere with amazing french pastries, and maybe a coffee shop where you'd want to hang out, study or chat with friends, maybe have a romantic dessert with a loved one in the evening, but also somewhere that you would want to order things out for a big party or to take to the office.  I normally enjoy baking immensely, if I'm not in a hurry or too stressed.  I like to try new things every now and then, trying out new recipes to see if they cut it for my future establishment, or just to make my classic recipes that I know I love already.  Yesterday was one of those experimental days to try out a recipe I'd been thinking about.  It has once has continued to rain since my last post about the rain, and we had planned another movie night, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to test some eclairs out on my friends.  Although it started... and ended kind of rough due to the lack of supplies and appliances SE Alaska, and my company housing has to offer, I feel it was an overall success, and I would love to make them again when I have more things available at home.

Rainy days and....Saturdays

Cailebotte - Paris, a rainy day
Winter is fast approaching here in SE Alaska.  Snow is ever creeping farther down the mountainside.  Not to mention I am in the largest temperate rainforest in North America. So why am I so surprised that it has been raining all day long? I guess because for the last week it has been unseasonably warm and sunny, making me forget that it is normal to have a lot of rain.  Starting yesterday the warm streak was broken, and it has been raining ever since.  Today was one of my last days off before going home to Utah, and I had high hopes of going on a great adventure, but it turned out to be one of those days where you want to curl up watch a good movie, eat soup and drink hot chocolate, and paint your toenails.... so, that is what I did! Some times a day in by yourself is great.

Bittersweet

I have been living here in Skagway Alaska since the end of April, that is almost 6 months.  I have met so many amazing people and had so many incredible experiences.  It is now the end of the season, and everyone is starting to leave to "real lives." All though I am very excited to go home to my "real life," I have come to realize that I don't know what my real life is.  And now more than ever I feel like it is time to move on to something new, I just don't know what that should be.  Maybe I should start by baking something...
